Neil Morrison was born in his family home in the Greens, Kirkintilloch in 1953 to Tom and
Cathy Morrison. He died on November 20, 2025 (aged 71) after a short illness.

Neil was the founder and CEO of the Institute of Counseling in Glasgow, Scotland. He began the Institute in 1984 after completing a Masters in Divinity in the USA which included a year studying CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. From this blending of clinical and pastoral counseling, Neil’s vision was to equip counsellors with counseling skills using both face to face and distance learning courses. He was an innovator and pioneer in the field of distance learning and online courses in counseling including certificates and diplomas in Foundation/Introduction, Grief & Bereavement, Couple and Family, and Crisis and Trauma Counseling.

The Institute extended its skills-based courses to give training for counselors in CBT, Mentoring, Coaching, Drugs and Alcohol, Addiction, Spiritual Care, and a wide variety of other courses, some of which were University accredited. Over his 40 years working with the Institute until his retirement, Neil mentored students, ministers, staff, and colleagues while pastoring a local church for over 38 years.

Neil was also a home grown comedian who loved nothing better than making us all laugh, which was excellent therapy. He always had a joke or story to fit any situation. Even the day before he died he
was still making jokes and keeping everyone going. One of his favorite sayings was “What a Wonderful Day,” which epitomizes the work ethic, faith, and joy which he brought to his life.

He was a loving husband to Lesley for 49 years and leaves 3 children, Ian, Stephen and Laura, and 5 grandchildren, Lucie, Kate, Lucas, Lily and Marc.
