“Well done, my good and faithful servant. Enter into the joys of the Lord!” Gordon Eugene Bloodworth of Oneonta, Alabama, was welcomed into heaven with those words about 7:30am, January 28, 2026. He was born February 22, 1944, in Albany, Georgia.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Glenda Ellis Bloodworth; daughters Melanie Christian (David) and LeAnn Hamby (Craig); grandchildren Samantha Pruett (Austin), Cameron Hamby (Lyndsey), Collin Hamby (Rebecca); great-grandchildren Sophia & Rafael Pruett, and Eloise & Melody Hamby; brothers Earl Bloodworth (Gladys) and LeRoy Bloodworth (Connie.)

There are many souls on their way to heaven, and others already greeting him on the streets of gold, who were touched throughout his 45 years as a faithful missionary to Africa. He retired in 2019, but like most “retired” ministers, was still very active teaching in his local church and helping when and wherever he could.

The legacy he leaves may best be described by the words of his former students:

“My heart is heavy, yet full of gratitude for a life so generously given. My life bears the marks of everything good a mentee could ask for from an accomplished mentor. He shaped how I think, how I lead, and how I serve. I will continue to live out what he faithfully showed me–integrity, courage, boldness, and devotion to God’s call.”

“He left an indelible mark on my life. His missionary work, was truly inspiring, and his commitment to educating future generations had a profound impact. His passion for spreading the Gospel and serving the community was contagious. I remember his teachings, which emphasized love, compassion, and service. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, including mine.”

“Today we miss a man who not only left a legacy in our hearts but a path of righteousness to follow.”
