Aubrey Daniel Maye, a faithful servant of the Lord and cherished family man, passed from this life into eternity on July 8, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on July 1, 1938, in Georgia, Aubrey spent his final days as he spent his life: in fellowship with beloved family, friends, and his community of faith in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Aubrey was a devout follower of Christ whose life embodied his deep commitment to faith and family. He answered the call to ministry at the age of 19, and at age 32 dedicated his life to serving the Azalea Garden Church. He would serve the church as Senior Pastor, Missions Pastor, Seniors Pastor, and finally Pastor Emeritus for the rest of his natural life. His unwavering devotion to his congregation and his tireless commitment to carrying the gospel across the globe left an indelible impression at home and abroad.

Beyond his local pastorate, he served in various capacities within the larger denomination (Church of God, Cleveland TN) including global leadership roles on the International Executive Council (Council of Eighteen) and the World Mission Board.

In addition to his pastoral work, Aubrey cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. He found immense joy in spending time with his family, always working to foster relationship and encourage growth and development in the next generations. He is remembered as a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather.

Aubrey is preceded in death by his parents, A. J. (Shorty) Justice and Lucille Justice, and his brother, Sherman Justice. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marian Childers Maye; his sons, Daniel W. Maye (and wife, Donna), Stephen W. Maye (and wife, Linnea), and Timothy E. Maye (and wife, Keri); his grandchildren, Taylor, Madeleine (and husband, Bryan), Sarah (and husband, Peter) Garrett, Wesley, and Austin; his siblings, Leland Justice (and wife, Peggy), Shirley Waller, Clara Barton, David Justice, and Laverne Batchelor (and husband, Jimmy); and a host of extended family and cherished friends whose lives have been forever enriched and paths forever changed by the gift of his presence.

Aubrey Daniel Maye’s life was lived with unwavering integrity and tireless service. While he will be dearly missed, his love for God, his heart for people, and his untainted example will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
