Hearts for the Children Ministry, founded and run by Tom and Elizabeth Allan, is located forty-five minutes northwest of Guatemala City where we have a priority of distributing clothes, shoes, and food to local villages. One of the first projects we initiated was a children’s feeding program that served over one hundred children a week from different villages. With God’s grace and help, we have also built a church, Mount Zion Evangelical, which provides children’s services to many villages.

Shortly after setting up our ministry, Hurricane Mitch hit Guatemala with torrential rains and life-threatening winds. A neighbor advised of the tragedy of one village family who had lost all of their possessions, their humble house, and the lives of a sixteen-year-old boy and a baby. We were able to move them to a community center and began providing for their immediate needs. God blessed us with the ability to secure new land, and the village of Gorion was born. These souls formed the congregation of Mount Zion Church, a living testament to the hope that God’s blessings bring.

These are some of our great memories these past several years:  What a blessing it was to marry twelve couples who had been living together for several years with children. It was heartwarming to see the smiles and excitement in the eyes of seventy-five children as we sat on a dirt floor inside an old tin building telling stories of Jesus. I never thought that one day we would baptize over one hundred souls from one village in one day. Only God can do that!
As COVID-19 decimated Guatemala, our food outreach delivered 500 bags each week for one month.
